The adaptive dance classes take place Friday evenings. I pick her up a little bit early from her day program so that she has a chance to rest a bit before heading off to dance. Then once she gets home, she likes to watch the whole week of Wheel of Fortune, which we record every night.
On the second Sunday of April, Faith participated in the
Northern Plains Dance student showcase where all of the students demonstrated the skills they have acquired throughout the year. Faith was excited to be on stage again at the Belle Mehus!
This year, the adaptive dance class performed to the song
"Golden." They were able to do the 4:00 show instead of the earlier one, which made it possible to go to church that morning. So, as you can imagine, it was a very full day for her.

Faith did great and she received several comments on how happy she looked being on stage. When she gets excited, her tone goes into overdrive, which makes it hard to do some of the dance moves. But she still gains a lot of confidence and gets to put her gift of entertaining others to good use!
One great thing about this performance is that people can buy a livestream ticket and watch it from wherever. Thanks to this feature, Faith's grandparents and aunt in Canada were able to watch and her dad also watched from a distance. Some people right here in town chose to watch it that way as well.
During the last few weeks of the month, Faith began practicing for her second performance, which is with the
Dreams in Motion wheelchair dancers. Every year, this group gets invited to perform at the
Just for Kix Spring Show the first Saturday in May.

This year the practices took place at Centennial Elementary where Faith went to school! |

Unfortunately, Faith began coming down with a cold, which turned into a sinus infection, so she hasn't been feeling the best during the practices. She is bound and determined not to have a repeat of 2024, when she came down with the flu and RSV and was unable to perform at the show. She still talks about how heartbreaking that was for her!
Thankfully, the antibiotics she has been on seem to be doing the trick. It's been hard to get her to rest though as she doesn't want to miss out on anything.
One more kind of dance that Faith went to this month was a Prom Dance at the local
AmVets. Every other month, this venue hosts a dance for people with special needs. This gives them an opportunity to socialize, meet others, and have fun in a safe environment.

The dance happened to land on a Wednesday, which I was thankful for, as that is the day respite care staff picks Faith up from her day program. She was able to help me get Faith into her dress and help do her hair for the fun event.
At the dance she met her date and the two of them had a blast socializing and dancing. My sister also showed up, which made Faith super happy! There was even a live band (Backstage Pass) who played a lot of classic rock, country, some oldies, and even a few polkas.
Some of Faith's favorite songs were "Fishin' in the Dark," "Centerfield," "Sweet Caroline," and "Sweet Home Alabama." Every time the band played a song she knew, she would scream with excitement! I thoroughly enjoyed the evening as well and it was fun helping her get out on the dance floor!
Besides making her happy, all of this dancing has helped her learn to work with others, appreciate different kinds of music, and get some exercise. When she's dancing, she truly is having the time of her life and I'm so glad there are plenty of opportunities for her to do so!
