August Was Moving Month

It's been a while since I have put up a blog post. I also haven't been very active on Faith's Mom's Facebook page. That's because the month of August was dedicated to moving!  About 4 years ago, Faith and I moved from the apartment she grew up in, to a different one in northeast Bismarck. The primary reason for the move was to have underground parking so that getting her loaded into the van by myself during our cold, snowy winters would be less of a challenge. We also needed to find a place in which the elevator didn't break down on a regular basis!  One of our last sunsets at our old apartment  That place served us well, but the drive to her day program, which is located across the river in Mandan was time consuming, not to mention, expensive. I drove about 45 miles a day and used up a tank of gas a week!  Searching for a New Place  Before our lease ended, I began praying about finding somewhere else to live. Faith's Thankful List 2017

For the past couple of years, I have posted Faith's thankful list on Thanksgiving.

Before I get to her list, I just want to say how very thankful I am to have a daughter who not only loves to encourage others, but that she really is grateful for the things she has and the people in her life.

The first year we did her thankful list was in 2013 and some of the thing son her list included Wheel of Fortune, her bed, and Mommy and Daddy. 

In 2014, she said she was thankful for her grandma, seeing her grandparents in Canada, her clothes, and her apartment. Some of the things that made her thankful list in 2015 included her whole family and worship music. Last year, her list contained her TV shows, her family, and books and stories.

Here is Faith's 2017 Thankful List: 

Her Grandma and Grandpa: We are so thankful to live so close to my parents. Faith loves visiting their place and getting together with her aunts, and cousins. We were thankful to get to see some of them today on Thanksgiving and are looking forward to next month when we'll get to see more of them!

Her Grandmother and Grandfather: I'm sad we don't get to see her Canadian grandparents very often, but I do treasure the times we have gotten to spend with them. Faith loves them dearly and it's always a treat to hear from them or get something from them in the mail!

Phoning her Auntie Joh: We get to talk to Rob's sister, Johanna at least once a week and it is a big highlight for her. She loves haring about Joh's adventures like her trip to England, her concerts for the choirs she's involved in and all about her greyhound, Rosie and cat, Ruby.

Going outside in nice weather: We were blessed with a warm October, and although most of November has been cold and we had snow earlier in the month, there have still been some nice days to get out and enjoy the fall weather. Today it reached 67 degrees!

All of her cousins: Faith has seven cousins and she enjoys seeing them when she's able. This past summer she was able to spend some time with her Nebraska cousins. She also loves seeing her big cousins when they're at Grandma and Grandpa's. She even has 2 baby second cousins with 2 more on the way!

Her blended food and feeding pump: I've been blending Faith's food for over a year now and I'm glad this is one thing she is thankful for! She used to hate the loud sound of the blender and would want to be in her room with the door closed while I blended. Lately, she is wanting to help me blend her food so she wants to be in the kitchen with me.

Her mom and dad: I'm glad to know she is thankful for her mom and dad. We have certainly had some challenges this year with raising our teenager but at the end of the day she knows she is loved and I'm know the feeling is mutual!

Inspire Collective: This is a faith-based homeschooling group that meets once a week where kids are grouped together according to their age and have science, music, and history class. Even though it starts at 9:00 a.m., Faith is always excited to get up and go to Inspire. She loves her three teachers and thoroughly enjoys hanging out with the other kids.

Making new friends: Because of Inspire, Faith has had some new friends that are around her age. She especially loves the seven girls in her class and I'm so glad they treat her with so much kindness. Faith has also made some new friends in our building - they are elderly ladies who Faith and I take the time to visit whenever we see them in the lobby. Faith is very sweet with them and tries to encourage them whenever she can.

I am thankful today and every day for the many blessings the Lord has provided. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and I hope you did too!

Cari's Cardiology Update

Normally, Faith is the one with all of the appointments but this week it has been my turn. On Monday I had my annual echocardiogram. On Tuesday I had my pacemaker device check and appointment with the cardiologist who comes to Bismarck from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.  The doctors who come are pediatric cardiologists who also specialize in adults with congenital heart defects (CHD). This saves anyone in the area who has a CHD from having to travel to Rochester each year. It is very convenient! (I do travel to Rochester to get my pacemaker changed, though!)  The Bible verse that has kept me going all these years! When I saw the doctor, we mainly discussed two things: my Fontan and my pacemaker. But first, a little background. I was born with double outlet right ventricle (DORV). Basically, this means both my aorta and pulmonary artery stem from my right ventricle. Because of this, my left ventricle does not really do anything, which is why this CHD is referred to as a sin...

My Tetanus Shot Ordeal: A Real Pain in the Arm

Last Wednesday I had my yearly doctor exam and when she said I should get my tetanus shot updated, I didn't think twice about it. The nurse said my arm would be sore for a couple of days, gave me a handout and stuck the needle in my arm.  The next day my arm was sore and although I found it a little harder to pick up and carry Faith, I was glad the pain wasn't going to last long. Boy was I wrong! But not only was my arm sore, my whole body was. I felt achy and extremely tired. According to a medical site on the Internet, these were mild side effects of the Tetanus shot. If these were only mild side effects, I would really hate to have them at a moderate or severe level. My arm is still red and sore on day 2 after my tetanus shot. On Friday, two days after getting the shot I felt so tired that I took a four-hour nap after getting Faith off to school. Then on Saturday I took a three-hour nap up until 7 o'clock, but still felt tired and was able to go back to sleep around 10. ...

Singing Along at Barney's Birthday Bash

But there I was at the counter waiting for my medium pepperoni pizza when I noticed a flyer with a picture of the big purple dinosaur. He was coming live to Bismarck with his friends, BJ, Baby Bop and Riff - I couldn't wait to tell Faith. Barney and friends appear live at the Bismarck Civic Center I don't know how old Faith was when she saw Barney for the first time. A receptionist at pediatric therapy gave us a Barney VCR tape and Faith loved it. I started letting her watch Barney on PBS and then we started collecting the DVDs .  All the while, I couldn't believe I was letting my daughter watch Barney - me and my friends made so much fun...
