5 Fall Things Faith Loves
I swear we just flipped the calendar to August and now September is right around the corner. How can that be? School has started for some of Faith's cousins and the air is a bit brisk during the morning hours.
Fall is definitely my favorite season, but for Faith, I think she likes Spring better. She loves it when winter is finally over and there are no more threats of snowstorms to ruin her plans! That being said, she is looking forward to some things next month and during the upcoming fall season.
1. Fall Leaves/Fun Flavors
One of my favorite parts of transporting Faith back and forth to her therapies and day program is that we get to cross the Missouri River twice a day. We love looking at all the trees by the river, the boats in the water, and even some wildlife like antelope, wild turkeys, and lots of birds.
Along with the pretty leaves, there is a cool crisp feel to the air, and the mosquitoes are long gone. Lots of fun flavors make their comeback in coffee shops and other places that Faith and her friends frequent while at their day program. Faith loves pumpkin cookies and pumpkin muffins, and yes, I'll have a pumpkin spice latte, please! (You can even buy me a cup of coffee right now!)

2. New Wheel of Fortune Episodes
Faith cannot wait for new Wheel of Fortune episodes to come out. During the summer, they play reruns, but she doesn't' want to watch them. On the weekends, she will watch episodes we have recorded, though. We have over 200 episodes of Wheel of Fortune on our DVR. Soon though, I'll need to replace my DVR box for an updated one and we will lose all our recordings. Thankfully, Faith can still watch past episodes of her favorite show on YouTube!
Faith has really come around to liking Ryan Seacrest (we were kind of hard on him in our review). She even asks people, "Are you a Ryan Seacrest fan?" There are many occasions when we are watching Wheel that I'll say, "Pat would never have done something like that!" But I guess if Faith has moved on, maybe I should, too!

3. Adaptive Dance
Last year, Faith participated in 3 sessions of adapted dance classes at Northern Plains Dance (NPD). She even got to perform onstage at the Belle Mehus for their spring showcase. She is looking forward to this opportunity again this fall.
There are many different things Faith gets to do in adaptive dance. Her favorite is the fast-slow dance, in which they move according to the speed of the music. She likes to go fast! The teacher tries to help the students identify what moods they might be feeling as they listen to different types of music. She'll ask if the music is light or heavy and try to get them to move accordingly. They also use ribbons, balls, a parachute, and other dance props. So, along with learning about music and dance, she has lots of fun!

4. Her Birthday
Of course, the one big event Faith can't wait for in the fall is her birthday! It's so hard to believe she will be turning 22 years old! Every year, she wants some kind of party, but I'm not sure yet what we are going to do for her upcoming birthday. Last year, we had a special dinner at our pastor's house, went to a concert in Fargo, and she started adaptive dance on her birthday followed by a little surprise party at home. It was a lot!
This year, I do have a little surprise in mind for her, but I'm still working out the details, so I don't want to give anything away. I think no matter what we end up doing, I'm sure she will have lots of fun and be showered with love! By the way, she enjoys watching recorded video greetings, so feel free to send those my way for her!

5. Football
OK, so maybe this is something I am looking more forward to than Faith. I don't watch NFL, but I do try to watch the NDSU Bison games on TV. (I may have to watch some Minnesota Vikings games this year, since Carson Wentz will be their backup quarterback!) She tolerates football for a little bit but would rather watch her shows.
Sometimes when I'm in my room yelling or cheering as I watch on TV, I'll hear her in the other room laughing at me. While Faith might not like watching football on TV, she definitely likes seeing it live. A few years ago, my sister and I took her to Fargo for a game, and she loved it. I would like to take her again sometime, so we will see what happens this fall!

Fall is a special time for me too. I love the change of seasons, the coloured leaves and my favourite - pumpkin muffins!
