August Was Moving Month

It's been a while since I have put up a blog post. I also haven't been very active on Faith's Mom's Facebook page. That's because the month of August was dedicated to moving!  About 4 years ago, Faith and I moved from the apartment she grew up in, to a different one in northeast Bismarck. The primary reason for the move was to have underground parking so that getting her loaded into the van by myself during our cold, snowy winters would be less of a challenge. We also needed to find a place in which the elevator didn't break down on a regular basis!  One of our last sunsets at our old apartment  That place served us well, but the drive to her day program, which is located across the river in Mandan was time consuming, not to mention, expensive. I drove about 45 miles a day and used up a tank of gas a week!  Searching for a New Place  Before our lease ended, I began praying about finding somewhere else to live. A condo would have been nice, but surprisingly not a...

A Bit of Our Own March Madness!

It seems we have been having a bit of our own March madness with so much happening. Last week, Faith and I were both struggling with colds and sore throats which caused me to miss work and her to miss school. I was hoping she would be up to trying wheelchair soccer this past weekend over at her school, but she just wasn't up to it.

As for myself, I wasn't sure if I would be up going to a Christian concert in Dickinson, but I went anyway. Me and my friend Sandy had front row seats and I even got autographs from the artists themselves - Big Daddy Weave, MIKESCHAIR and Kerrie Roberts! I also saw another friend at the concert who recently moved to Killdeer - it was so cool to see her there!

While I went road-tripping to Dickinson, Faith spent the whole evening with her dad. I didn't get home until 1:00 a.m. and by 10:30 a.m. the next day, Faith really wanted her mom. I was sleeping in the bedroom with the door closed and all the sudden I heard Faith knocking on my door saying, "Mommy are you in there?" "Mommy wake up!" 

She had been lying on the floor in the office and scooted down the hallway to the bedroom. She was so cute that I really didn't mind that she woke me up!

The next day we ran some errands and then met Grandma and Grandpa and Todd and Barbara at Bonanza for dinner. We had originally decided to eat at China Star, but Faith really wanted some mashed potatoes and gravy. It was fun seeing them and we hope they make it to Bismarck again soon!

On Monday, after such a crazy weekend, I was not looking forward to going to work and Faith really didn't want to go to school. We both managed though, and then after work I met Rob and Faith at the clinic for an appointment with her pediatrician.

Faith currently weighs 48 pounds and is about 50 inches tall. We got some really good advice from him on how to go about getting Faith to eat more solids, especially during lunch at school. They were both very excited to see each other. Between the two of them, me and Rob could hardly get a word in edgewise!

Yesterday we had to round up our car at the mechanic's because it hadn't been starting. Thankfully, it was nothing major. 

Faith is currently in the middle of a week at school where they have different themes for dressing each day. Monday was dress up day and although she didn't want to, she wore her pretty pink outfit with the bow on the shirt. Yesterday was black and white day and today was wacky today. Tomorrow is celebrity hair day (not sure what Rob's going to do about that one) and Friday is Faith's most favorite day of all - Pajama Day!

Right now, Faith is very quiet sitting here next to me as I type this up. After a busy couple of days, she is exhausted. Once again, though, we are looking forward to a fun-filled weekend with the JOY Breakfast and wheelchair soccer!

Cari's Cardiology Update

Normally, Faith is the one with all of the appointments but this week it has been my turn. On Monday I had my annual echocardiogram. On Tuesday I had my pacemaker device check and appointment with the cardiologist who comes to Bismarck from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.  The doctors who come are pediatric cardiologists who also specialize in adults with congenital heart defects (CHD). This saves anyone in the area who has a CHD from having to travel to Rochester each year. It is very convenient! (I do travel to Rochester to get my pacemaker changed, though!)  The Bible verse that has kept me going all these years! When I saw the doctor, we mainly discussed two things: my Fontan and my pacemaker. But first, a little background. I was born with double outlet right ventricle (DORV). My Tetanus Shot Ordeal: A Real Pain in the Arm

Last Wednesday I had my yearly doctor exam and when she said I should get my tetanus shot updated, I didn't think twice about it. The nurse said my arm would be sore for a couple of days, gave me a handout and stuck the needle in my arm.  The next day my arm was sore and although I found it a little harder to pick up and carry Faith, I was glad the pain wasn't going to last long. Boy was I wrong! But not only was my arm sore, my whole body was. I felt achy and extremely tired. According to a medical site on the Internet, these were mild side effects of the Tetanus shot. If these were only mild side effects, I would really hate to have them at a moderate or severe level. My arm is still red and sore on day 2 after my tetanus shot. On Friday, two days after getting the shot I felt so tired that I took a four-hour nap after getting Faith off to school. Then on Saturday I took a three-hour nap up until 7 o'clock, but still felt tired and was able to go back to sleep around 10. ...

Faith's New Van

Finally, on November 4th, the day the elevator in our building was fixed, I was able to take Faith downstairs so she could check out her new van! It happened to be a beautiful day, close to 80 degrees, which is rare for North Dakota in November. We had respite care that day, so I had her record me getting Faith loaded up for the first time.   Faith is all smiles about her new van! Faith is ready to roll! After loading her up, the three of us went for a fun drive including a trip through McDonald's so Faith could get a chocolate chip cookie. Faith was having so much fun as we drove around.  She kept randomly shouting out things like, "Happy Birthday!" and "Merry Christmas!" (I am looking forward to driving around and looking at Christmas lights with her this year!) I guess she really does think her van is the best gift ever!  Faith inside the van.
